Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
What Is SEO
SEO (or Search Engine Optimisation) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or web page in search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. These are ‘natural’ or ’organic’ searches which are un-paid, i.e. you don’t pay the search engine a fee for the position you achieve.
There are two types of SEO; ‘On Page’ and ‘Off Page’. We always include On Page SEO as part of the build process.
On Page SEO
On-page SEO (also known as on-site SEO) refers to the practice of optimising webpages to improve a website’s search engine rankings and earn organic traffic. In addition to publishing relevant, high-quality content, on-page SEO includes optimising headlines, HTML tags (title, meta, and header), and images.
Off Page SEO
Off-page SEO includes activities done off of a website in an effort to increase the site’s search rankings. Common off-page SEO actions include building backlinks, encouraging branded searches, and increasing engagement and shares on social media platforms. Another way is to create a profile for your business or organisation on directory websites like 192.com, Yell.com, Thomson Local etc and include a link to your website as part of your profile. The more links to your website from other websites that are considered reputable and the more visitors your site gets, the higher it will be ranked by search engines as they will view it as a popular site.
One thing to remember, SEO is not an overnight process. Unless you are willing to pay for advertising space, there is no magic wand that will put you at the top of page one of Google just like that. It takes time and effort. We will implement On Page SEO during the build and any future amends we make to the site e.g. new content or images and you can continue with Off Page SEO through social media and link building.
